Abstract

In a petition on behalf of his fellow water-men, presented c. May 1614, John Taylor complains that the players who used to perform at the Globe, Rose and Swan have abandoned the Bankside for Middlesex, 'so that every day in the week they do draw unto them three or four thousand people that were used to spend their monies by water.'
