Viewing Event Record: The Fortune burns down and is rebuilt: Howes

Abstract

The 1631 edition of John Stow's 'Annals,' continued by Edmund Howes, contains an account of the burning of the Globe and Fortune theates. Howes writes that the Fortune was burned four years [an error for eight years] after the Globe, 'by negligence of a candle' and like the Globe, was rebuilt 'farre fairer[.]'
