Viewing Event Record: The Earl of Dorset leases land for a playhouse to Richard Gunnell and William Blagrave

Abstract

A document dated 2 July 1667 summarizes an indenture of 6 July 1629, in which the Earl of Dorset grants Richard Gunnell and William Blagrave a piece of land in the parish of St Bridget in the ward of Farringdon Without, for the purposes of erecting a playhouse and other buildings. The land measures 140 feet in length and 42 feet in breadth, and is granted for forty-one and a half years, at £25 for the first half year and £100 pounds per annum thereafter, to be paid in quarterly installments.
