Abstract

The lord mayor writes to Sir Francis Walsingham that theatres and bear-baiting rings -- the Theatre and Curtain specifically -- are a great threat to spread of plague. He asks Walsingham to convince the privy council to close the places outside the Mayor's jurisdiction.
