Viewing Event Record: Martin Slatier asks the Privy Council to allow Red Bull construction to continue so it may house a projected acting company

Martin Slatier writes a petition to the Privy Council concerning the projected playhouse in the yard next to the Red Bull Inn. The Privy Council has sent Slatier a letter, ordering him to stop construction on the playhouse, and Slatier begs the council to re-consider. He invokes first the Duke of Holstein, the queen's brother-in-law, according to whose wishes Slatier has put together a company of actors. He notes that he and his colleague, Aaron Holland, a servant to the Earl of Devonshire, have leased the Red Bull property for thirty years, and have already begun construction on the property. He reminds the council that he and Holland have the consent of the parishioners, whose names are subscribed to an earlier petition.
