Abstract

Before Margaret Brayne began her series of suits against the Burbages, she sued Robert Miles in Chancery court over her husband's investment in the George Inn. She narrates the circumstances under which Miles came to the George in 1580 in a poor and destitute state, and says that Miles persuaded her husband to enter into a business partnership to split ownership of the George Inn. Brayne affirms that she and John were childless.
